RESPECT! Stops Domestic Violence

The Best Five Minutes You'll Spend Today: Text RESPECT to 41010 and donate $5.00 to RESPECT! to help end domestic violence.

A favorite blog of mine to read is The HR Wench. What other blog lets you read about zero tolerance policies, Toby v. Holly on The Office, and job-hunting while fat?

One post she recently wrote, however, was not about the workplace. Instead, she wrote about a cause near and dear to me--domestic violence. Jenn herself puts it best, so I'll borrow her words (don't worry, I got permission awhile back):

RESPECT! is a fundraising and awareness campaign aimed at preventing violence against women and children by teaching respect as a fundamental value. They are raising money through a text-to-donate program that’s pretty cutting edge stuff. Simply put, if you text ‘respect’ (no quotes) to 41010, you will receive a confirmation message that, if you confirm, donates $5 to the Family Violence Prevention Fund. Your donation appears on your next cell phone bill. No debit card, credit card or check required! How easy is that?

Macy’s is a major sponsor of this campaign and they’ve taken the partnership very seriously. They’re incorporating an employee education resource program in conjunction with FVPF to help its stores support employees that may be in an abusive relationship. This is not (an all too typical) corporate-y, cheesy, feel-goody philanthropy deal, they’re doing something substantive about this.

Please join me in supporting FVPF in their important work.
